Green Cyn/Devils/Kinzell/SRT loop, 10/31/20

Howdy,

At 0815 we were the first two cars at the Green Canyon Way trailhead. Unsurprisingly, there was no shortage of trees across the trail climbing to the Hunchback Trail. On the bright side... it was all onesie/twosie blockages that were easily gone over or around.

Devils Peak Lookout:

Kinzel Lake was beautiful in the morning sunshine. We saw no other people on the trail until we were 10+ miles into our day.

Descending toward the Salmon River. Trail traffic was picking up by this point.

Guessing there were 20+ cars at the Salmon River TH, and more than a dozen at the Green Canyon TH. There was a Clackamas County deputy in a SAR rig at Green Canyon waiting for hikers who'd gotten lost-ish to exit. Anybody have details?

Hey Rob,
CSAR volunteers didn’t get a call yesterday so the incident most have resolved easily, which is fairly common. Did you get the Deputies name; Meyers or Teague or ?

Ran into the SAR Deputy you saw. He said it was two males, lost the trail in the significant blowdown. He was able to monitor their movements via cell phone and “coached” them back onto the trail and safely back to the road.
Not much of a story.

It'd be interesting to know where the gentlemen went off trail and if they had a GPS app on their phone or any other navigational aids on them.

Lost the trail in blowdown

I've done that before. Easy to do. Especially if there's a switchback. Or ill get on a faint false trail

I've always figured it out though without SAR

I always carry a GPS which helps
