Stuart and horseshoe lake

Post by CyrusK. » October 13th, 2020, 9:51 am

I should've posted this earlier did this trip about a week ago (10/3-4/20). I backpacked to Stuart lake and then dayhiked up to the lesser-known horseshoe lake. I'd gotten into Leavenworth late the night before and camped at Bridge creek CG. The Colchuck trailhead was predictably crowded, I ended up having to park at the Eightmile TH, which was also full to the brim. Stuart lake was luckily much less crowded, and I camped by the far end of the lake.

The next morning, I hiked up to horseshoe lake. The trail is burnt out (I was covered in fireweed fluff and charcoal) but was pretty easy to follow.

Horseshoe lake was incredible. The alpine larch were in full display. I wandered around for about an hour and took way to many photos.

Love that area!
When I hiked up to Horseshoe from Lake Stuart, the trail was easy to see but it was a "green belay."
