Quartz Creek

Post by Sugar Pine » September 23rd, 2020, 7:48 pm

Backpacked from the Middle Lewis River up Quartz Creek. Did not see any other hikers, perhaps because it forecast to rain today, which it did at about 6:00 am. It was also a weekday, but given the closure of so many other areas, we expected to see some other hikers. Loved all the old-growth trees along Quartz Creek. No issues crossing the drainages, water levels were low.

Went to the camp just past the Quartz Creek Butte Trail Junction (photo), but decided we liked the camp at Straight Creek better, so we returned to that camp.

We enjoyed checking out water falls/cascades at the Straight Creek - Quartz Creek confluence. We got to the top of the Lower Quartz Creek Falls, but didn't see a way to the bottom for a better view of the falls and pool.

It's a great hike at this time of year. The creek crossings are easy and there are the first glimmers of fall color . . .
