Sights of all the major peaks from the top, even through the smoky, hot and dry weather.
Grizzly Mountain Summit via Grizzly Mountain Road, Monday 8/16/2020. Saw no other hikers while hiking! I would suggest parking farther up on the road or leaving a note in your vehicle as I parked lower to get more mileage and found a sherriffs card on my passenger side of my car (one of the neighbors must have complained about my car being parked in one of the pull outs on the road, luckily I did not get a ticket.) Bring plenty of water or go early if you do this on a hot day, it was 93 degrees when I was heading down the mountain. I probably half a litre of water left or less. There is barely any shade and it is steep ish. The gravel road has some pretty major washboard and was thick gravel at times. Looks like AWD or 4x4 could make it to the top. The road isn't too terrible. The closer you get to the top the road gets rocky, but not too bad. The false summit or Barnes Butte Summit (?) Has a great camp spot with a fire ring. No hunting is allowed here and there are also fire restrictions in affect due to the dry hot weather right now. There are only two flat parts on this whole road. 7.71 miles w/ 2165ft elevation gain. This is not handicap accessible and no handicap parking. I think it would be ok for small children but keep an eye on them as the steeper you go the more steep the drop offs are, but the road is fairly large.

Shade hopped all the way to the top with lots of breaks and found a tiny patch of shade at the top to take a break.

Views from the top did not come out so great due to all the smoke in the area.

Interesting. IANAL but I'd bet a nickel that the Forest Service has an easement for the road to the top so if there is no closed gate, parking by the side of the road and doing a road hike should not generate a tresspassing charge. Attached is some parcel data for Grizzly Mtn. Looks like there is quite a bit of public land there.

Since he left his card, you could always just call/email and ask what the issue was. Would be helpful to know if you ever intend to go back.
