Makes sense. The first week of August is probably the most reliable week of the year for warm, dry weather in western Oregon.OregonSurveyor wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2020, 10:11 amthe Timberline Trail is heavily traveled this week!!!

It's a bit worrisome that the Eliot Creek crossing is now so easy it can be jumped. It seems to suggest the glaciers are depleted and runoff is low. The two times I've done the loop in the past, the water level was high. Of course, one season does not a trend make, but the fact fits I'm afraid.

If I'm not mistaken, this section crosses the highest point on the trail (7,320 ft). My map has it at 45.37370, -121.66120. I read there are some streams nearby and approaching Gnarl Ridge. Can you confirm this?benguernsey wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 4:07 pmFrom a before Cooper Spur till after Newton Creek there is only some small glaciers putting out VERY small streams of water. Best to fill up for this section, there very little shade.

There are a few trickles of runoff around the high point, but nothing I'd want to drink between Compass Creek and Newton (but better at the spring just CW from Heather Canyon). Unless you want to drop down to Tilly Jane.
