You assume she has some method, but maybe she just files them chronologically, and spent 37* minutes scanning through old pics until she found it.

My system is pretty basic:
Hiking log in Google docs + Photos one folder per hike labeled & sorted YYYYMMDD_Hike Description.
Also most also saved online & sorted in the same order https://guy.smugmug.com/
hiking log & photos.
