Red Lake Trail

Post by Double Tree » June 28th, 2020, 3:56 am

An impromptu run up the Clackamas Friday after work. Saw a turkey! taking its own sweet time to cross the road. Been camping and hiking here for 30 years and have never seen a turkey before. Found a camp site on 46 and set up a crummy old tent for the evening. No mosquitoes, which was nice. Heard and saw an owl. It was very warm overnight. Saturday morning my husband dropped me off at the Red Lake trailhead while he drove in to Lower Lake to go fishing. Trail mostly clear, better than previous years actually. Someone had cleared previous blowdown. Saw a duck with ducklings at Red Lake I think it was. Plenty of early summer flowers, like lupine, white and purple anemone, lily and still a few shooting stars and heather. Huckleberries are going to be good this year. Mosquitoes started close to Red Lake and were bothersome until I put on repellant. Lower Lake had quite a show of bear grass. Saw a bald eagle.
