yeah, they look like gophers

but, if you dig at them, they're totally above ground. The ground below the tube is undisturbed.

some day I'm going to get photographic evidence :)

They are gophers. And the tubes are called eskers they create them under the snow, so it would be pretty hard to catch them in the act.

Apparently they are also called ropes, first I've heard of that.

I dunno, I'm not convinced, I'm going to have to continue investigating :)

They are everywhere. After snow melts. If it's gophers they are very prolific.
