Lower Klamath Lake - Apr 24, 2020

Had to get out of the house so I took a short trip south to Lower Klamath Lake. Found interesting birds hanging out in the remnants of last year's tule reeds. I'm new to all this bird watching so I saw a couple I hadn't seen before.

A gaggle of Greater White-Fronted Geese - a White-Faced Ibis in the back for the photo-bomb.

I assume this is a mating pair of Cinnamon Teal ducks. I'll have go back and check for babies.

The animal image contributions to this site (see marksc posts and others) rival most of what Audubon comes up with. I'm not highly pro bird, since they tend to poop on my mailbox, but in the wild the critters can be breath taking. These shots are definitely calendar worthy. And the lake area is for sure a wide open space. Thanks Pablo.

When I retired to K-Falls last year birding was way down on my list of things to do as I came here for hiking. But a couple days after I and my SO settled in I went down to Moore Park and the Link River (drains upper Klamath Lake) to hike the trails there and ran into a zillion pelicans hanging out on islands in the Link River. For some reason all the things around here named Pelican-this and Pelican-that did not register in my mind as referring to actual pelicans. I became a lot more interested in viewing and photographing birds after that with visits to Tule Lake, Link River, Upper and Lower Klamath Lakes. Of course, there are a bunch of other places I've yet to explore for birds and other wildlife. I missed the Bald Eagle flyout from Bear Valley this year - next year for sure. Going to be fun. Hiking is great.
