Superstitions - Treasure Island

Post by markesc » March 28th, 2020, 11:35 am

Some have said they still want me to post even though I jumped ship outta Oregon months ago...

So here ya go!

Cabin Fever has set in, so been hitting the trail most days as a form of relief; Atleast until "they" decide that hiking is dangerous and must "close" the forest...

If you're on the east side of Phoenix, the Superstitions are an easy destination. The Treasure Island hike is likely the most popular, but it's a nice introduction to the area with enough views. Strongly recommend going in the last 2.5-3 hours of the day when the crowds die down and the wildlife is more prevalent.

I did a few hikes east of Phoenix back when a friend of mine lived in Scottsdale. Have you been to La Barge Canyon yet? There are some fun non-dangerous off-trail opportunities in there.

Also, Brown's Peak is fun if you're into scrambling, but the drive to the trailhead is horrific.

Have not heard of La Barge Canyon til now... I'll have to research that one!

Don't think my car would make it down any messed up roads, but I'm building a network here so I do know of one jeep owner... may have to hit 'em up!

There's just TONS to discover here!!!!

The road to Brown's Peak is rough in places, but what makes it really horrible is its length: 18 miles one way, and it takes a full hour. If you go all the way around to the Roosevelt Lake side, it's only 10 miles of dirt, and it might be a little less rough... but it's a pretty long detour.

Spectacular photos!

Been to other parts of Arizona but never spent time in the Phoenix area, now your reports make me rethink it. Just spent an hour in Google Earth and there's so many places to see.. Maybe next winter :)
