Ecola State Park 11-22-2019

Post by markesc » December 6th, 2019, 2:32 pm

Wanted to visit a place during the week from where they filmed the Goonies!

The trail connecting the first parking area to the indian beach is closed, but ended up doing a short climb to watch the waves below past Indian beach and then made my way back to the first parking area looking towards the Big Haystack rock!

Winter on the Oregon coast is truly the best time with the lower sun angle, less crowds, and cheaper hotels if you plan to stay a few days:

Nice pictures as usual. Looks like you went at the right time. I just read that Ecola will be closed 12/10 thru 12/12 for dangerous tree removal.

Yes, I had read that too (about the tree removal). There's a section of that trail that has been sliding for at least the past 30 years. It's probably been longer, but that's my history with the trail. Not sure what can be done to find a more stable route without compromising the views.
