We attempted to reach the Mount Mitchell Trailhead on 10/14/19. We were approximately a mile up FR 4635 when we encountered a large tree across the road. We weren't able to get around the tree, so we had to turn back and never got close to the trailhead.

This is the one down near Ripplebrook.
4635 is the main access to the Rimrock TH mentioned in the FG.

There's another TH over on the Cottonwood Meadows side, right?

That would be correct - off the 5830 Road, about two miles past the Shellrock Lake trailhead. On the West side of the road, the trail is the Rimrock trail. On the east side of the road is the Cottonwood Meadows trailhead that goes east. The road gets somewhat brushy past the Shellrock lake trailhead, but the road is in pretty good shape. The trail on that end does not get nearly as much traffic as the other end, though, so it is somewhat rougher.
