Hello,
This is my trip report from our group that just finished the trail. First I would like to state the tail is very well maintained compared to the ones we normally hike in Idaho. We did the route clockwise and took 5 days and 4 nights. Only issue on the hike was 40 mph winds that gave us a little dusting all night long. After reading about water crossings I was a little hesitant about difficulty described. My experience was that I didn't even get my feet wet after crossing all 8 sections without removing my boots. I was able to step across logs and rocks at every crossing. This was maybe because of my balance but hey I am not that great at rock hopping. Great trip with tons of memorable moments that will stick with me and my friends.

Timberline Trail 7/21 - 7/25 2019
Re: Timberline Trail 7/21 - 7/25 2019
Not many people make their debut post a Timberline report.
Congrats on the dry boots! I've had really good luck on creek crossings. The only thing that's ever shut me down is when rocks are iced up from creek spray, and it's way to cold to consider wading. Other than that, I always find a way across.
My last trip up Hood was 7/27, and damn windy. Grit in ears, eyes watering, snot blowing onto glasses. At least this time of year it doesn't get cold (rarely below freezing) so it's hard to complain about wind, especially when it keeps summer bugs away.
Your pace was smart. If you're a local, it's okay to fly through it, but visitors should linger and savor.

Thanks for the informative trip report! I'm hiking the loop next week (again; last time in 2016) and the info is much appreciated.

Adding my name to the "thank you" list!
How was the Eliot crossing in particular? I heard from people on the trail last week near Cooper Spur that Eliot was the hardest of the crossings they encountered. Any other crossings that posed special difficulties while rock-hopping?

Elliot Crossing looks trivial now (at least compared to 2016). How were the Coe, Sandy and Muddy crossings? I'm hiking clockwise starting Monday.
Thanks in advance,

Pretty sure the crossing above isnt Eliot. Looks like maybe Newton.
Re: Timberline Trail 7/21 - 7/25 2019
If that is Eliot, remember that there is a real trail there now and it’s much lower. In 2016 it was choose-your-own-adventure.keithcomess wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2019, 10:49 amElliot Crossing looks trivial now (at least compared to 2016).
