Yes, that is the crossing at Newton Creek.
Elliot East was more about getting down the bank, than the crossing.
Look downstream for the great log to cross. We crossed at 6pm. ;)

We were up there the same week. Wife's 1st week long backpack in 37 years. Honeymoon. :D
She did awesome. Heading back to stay at McNeil Point this weekend. With Lighter Packs.

We took the slow boat. Paradise. Ramona Falls. Cairn Basin. Tilly Jane and Newton Creek.
Only thing to add. No water at Cairn Basin shelter camping area. Green, but no surface water I could find.
Pick up good water right after McNeil Point trail head before you drop down into the camp area.

That log sure made a great bridge last summer. Saw a video last week, taken somewhat late in the day it seemed, where the water appeared to be splashing over the left/east end. Did the creek appear to be eating into the bank on that side as well?

The real hard forces are right up against solid rock. :(
Felt bad. We had one retired solo hiker turn around and head back to Timberline when he looked at the Elliot Creek up climb going counter clock wise. :(
Being a mountaineer in my first life I'd rather up climb, than down climb. Just be careful. Only move one foot at a time.
My bride kind a struggled with that. One solid then move. Easy deal.

I like taking my time. It's so nice up there why hurry?

If you go about 1/4 mile west from Cairn Basin to Glisan Creek, the main creek is too silty, but just before that there's a stream that must get water from the main creek, but the silt is filtered out.
