New Year's Day 2019 Coldwater snowshoe

Road 504 was covered by snow starting at around 10 mi from the lake. It was a light layer and drivable without chains or snow tires. Road is gated at Hummocks so add 1 mi each way to walk to the S Coldwater TH. Lower snow was super dry and crystalline, like coarse salt. Snow higher up was deep enough and alternated between soft powder and crunchy rain crust. Tracks next to ours in the last pic were a bobcat whose trail we followed. :ugeek:

Nice photos, Nat! This spot is on my list of “embarrassed to admit I’ve never been there”..! Someday. The first photo is really nice - at first glance it could be the White Mountains in NH with the alder framing the view.
