Big-ass log upended in middle of trail/road. This pic needs something for size comparison.
Here ya go!

Nice old-timey beard, Karl. If the clothes/gear didn't give you away, I'd think you were a 19th century prospector. ;)

In reality Karl is a modern dwarf from Middle Earth in synthetic hiking attire and that is his pet chihuahua.

Yeah, Chip, West Zig Zag is easy to miss since the lookout site isn't on a prominence; more like a little viewpoint. Walking that road down Enola Hill would kind of suck. It certainly did to drive!

Chipper, I meant to ask, how did you survive getting to your car, let alone the drive home? And did you carry that thing around all day...?

Yep, I knew somebody here would recognize it.

...it would be easy to miss West Zigzag in the snow. It's right along the trail, but there's not much to distinguish the spot except the old lookout footings, which would have been buried.
Oh, okay. The rebar would have been poking out, but easy to miss. I liked seeing your summer report/pics. It's fun seeing familiar places, but different.

Only until I hit the snow, and then I put it in my beer sled. Damn thing was heavy. I mean even empty. Thick glass.

Ha! I did think her choice of B&W played well with that one. :D

I just sent a request to Google to change the name from East Zigzag Mountain to just Zigzag Mountain

So we can just tell Google to fix their errors? I had no idea! I have a looooong list.
It worked! Would be better if they had tagged EZZ, but at least the peak they previously called EZZ is now just ZZ. :geek:

edit: Google now shows it as Zigzag Mountian. Aiwetir, care to send them a follow-up request?

aiwetir, if Google responds to your requests would you send them one to make Kueffler Road unbroken? (around 45.6459, -122.0387) It would be nice to have Google Maps route through that area correctly. I sent a request and got nothing.

I would try, but that area is completely unfamiliar to me after the right turn to Hardy Ridge. so I'm not sure what's right. OSM stops way before Google. It actually looks like Bing might have it more correct but I have no idea what's up there

One time with a group of high school students heading toward Cast Lake from the Devils Meadow area (used to drive all the way to it) and found my compass had me heading the wrong direction. So checked another compass and sure enough we were going the wrong way. A little snow sure can be handy when you want to turn around which we did.
