I'll be doing a trip there in the next couple months when the snows cut off higher elevations. That should be interesting. Thanks for the report and pics.

The first 4.5 miles are all in the burn zone and then its like someone drew a line in the forest and the moss and greenery suddenly reappear. Good luck!retired jerry wrote: ↑October 11th, 2018, 6:26 amI'll be doing a trip there in the next couple months when the snows cut off higher elevations. That should be interesting. oh, that's fine, I'd want to go in more than 4.5 miles to camp anyway
Nick Eaton Ridge will also be interesting

I'm sure you'll have no trouble with this, but route finding along Nick Eaton - especially between Deadwood and the Plateau Cutoff - is very interesting (as in: the trail doesn't always exist).

you're talking post fire?
that trail was more difficult than average trail before the fire

Yea, post fire. I was on a few of the trail crews working to rebuild stuff up there, and, because of time constraints, we more or less just stopped at the Deadwood junction. I walked along the length of Nick Eaton to the old signal hut at the Rainy - Wahtum junction in early July, and it was intermittently bushwhacking for a couple miles south of Deadwood. Still doable, but considerably worse than it used to be.retired jerry wrote: ↑October 15th, 2018, 5:42 amyou're talking post fire?

thanks
I've done that when there was a lot of snow on the ground, that might actually be easier now
