Had a great hike up to Dome Rock and on to Tumble Lake. While the climb to Dome Rock from Detroit Lake is over 3,000 feet, the path down to Tumble Lake (and back up) is the steeper part of this journey even though it’s only another 800 feet. GPS said the round-trip was 13.7 miles.

The views are great from Dome Rock. Mt. Jefferson here.

There are a number of interesting rocks along the ridge.

This is the bluff next to the lake outlet looking down the Tumble Creek canyon. You can hear Tumble Falls here, but can’t see it. Apparently it’s a pretty impressive falls.
While visiting Tumble Lake, ran into a Forest Service employee who said he was hanging Christmas tree ornaments. Apparently, this year’s National Christmas Tree will come from the Willamette National Forest. To celebrate, the Forest is hiding 200 ornaments along their non-wilderness trails. For the “Ornament Hunt”, if you find one, in addition to getting to keep it, there are prizes – including a chance to win a trip to the National Christmas Tree lighting in Washington, D.C. Flowers for the day.
The trailhead off Hwy 22 next to Detroit Lake is easy to access. There is an upper trailhead on a forest road that shortens the hike a great deal. See the Field Guide for details.

Oh cool! Great trip report. Love the "old and new signs" photo. I was looking for something new not too far from Portland with about 3000 ft of elevation. This looks perfect actually.
