Mt. Defiance climb

Post by mjanardh » June 6th, 2018, 10:14 pm

Started from starvation ridge TH and proceeded on the defiance trail, did not encounter anyone for the first 2 miles. The parking was full, most seemed to have taken the starvation ridge route, as i passed several coming down the mountain. The burn progressively gets worse from ~800 ft to ~4000 ft. its heart breaking to see the devastation. with the underbrush all burned out and canopy thinned out, the trails look wider and sunlit. The trail is sketchy in a dozen places and one has to be very careful negotiating them.

Thanks for the trip report! I was wondering how the burn was in that area. I haven't done that hike in 10 years I think. Might be time to do that loop again myself.

Thanks for sharing!
