Hamilton Mt 2-26-2018 – Oregon Side Observation

Hiked Hamilton Mountain on Monday Feb. 26. I didn’t plan on taking a lot of photos, so I only brought my phone. The trail was in good condition.
The snow on the last section to the summit was about 12-16 inches and we were breaking through. It was a soft powder, so we did not have our gaiters on. We used micro spikes to safely get up the rocky sections further down.
Something that we noticed on the Oregon side of the gorge was how the ridgelines give a very dark shadow now that there is no foliage on the trees from the burn. With more trees on the ridgeline than on the slopes, this appeared to create the dark shading.
It is very different appearance than we have ever seen. I believe that light snow and frost on the ground enhanced this view. It reminds us of how many years there are ahead before things get back to looking full and green again. The snow on the last section to the summit was about 12-16 inches and we were breaking through.
