Devils Peak via Cool Creek Trail- July 5, 2008

After deep snow shut out the summit of Devils Peak a few weeks back as my wife and I hiked the Green Canyon Way trail, I headed back to the good ole Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness this afternoon for a solo hike up the Cool Creek Trail. Misty rain started in Zigzag and was a constant companion all day. Quite a few big blowdowns along the trail. The rhododendrens looked fantastic! The whole trail was awash in pink. Snow started about 200 vertical feet below the intersection with the Huckleberry Mtn trail. I was lucky enough to follow the tracks of some hikers that summited earlier in the day. Without their tracks, I would have turned back sooner. With a GPS the summit is attainable.
