Rainy day pondering of an insignificant mystery...Chip Down wrote: I guess the Danger signs at Buck Point are a recent addition.
It seems quite common to consider Buck Point to be the spot where the powerlines cross the toe of Ruckel Ridge. The Field Guide refers to Buck Point as that spot.
However, there is little side trail along the Buck Point Trail (#439) that works out to a nice rock outcropping with stellar views. The real "Buck Point"?
In the Lowes book "35 Hiking Trails Columbia River Gorge", the Ruckel Ridge trail description contains the following passage:
"Traverse from the final turn for a few hundred feet to an obvious, but unsigned, fork at two large rocks and stay left. The branch to the right at the fork ends in 100 yards at Buck Point. Wind up in six short switchbacks at a cleared swath under a power line tower."
