North Lake

Not being able to hike during the hot days of summer I took advantage of a cooler day to make the short hike to North Lake from the southern trailhead. I didn't keep count but there are probably as many as 10 trees down across the trail. All but one were easy step overs, the other one I sat on and swung my legs over. Unfortunately my trailing leg didn't quite make it so I now have a line of scabs down my shin bone. North Lake was very peaceful. The crawdads were thick as usual, they ranged in size from about 1/2 inch to 5 or 6 inches. Didn't get any good pictures. Kept my distance so I wouldn't alarm them but the whir of my zoom sent them shooting back under their rocks. Felt so good to be out in the woods again that I stayed way too long and had to deal with the heat on the way out. Only saw two people going in as I was coming out. The road in is just as crappy as always but there were lots of fall colors to be seen along the way. Oh, almost forgot, the fish were jumping like crazy so I'm guessing now would be a good time to take a pole up there. Sure am glad we're getting the cooler fall weather so I can get back out there. Hopefully I'll have pictures of my next hike.
