I've been to the top of the basalt nubbin. It's steep on the backside and then a sheer cliff on the front. It reminded me of Mt Kiesano, so I called it Mt Wiesano since it's in Washington.

I hadn't realized this was a necromanced thread from 2016, and Bruce already answered my question about when the CCT was abandoned (70s) farther up the page. ;)

Hmmm I wonder what Chip's mystery thing is. My guess is (what I call) the basalt nubbin. Yes-a road leads close to it!

Oh, I remember that, and the scenic cliffs above/north. One more thing I might want to check out.

I found a couple variant shots of places discussed above.

Thanks Chip and cfm. This thread gave me interest in the talus field and I went to the edge of it yesterday. It's an interesting place and I plan to return. Any tips for traversing this terrain safely? There are a lot of blocks that seem small enough that I could shift them, but big enough to trap me. I'd like to avoid any "127 Hours" unpleasantries.

Sketchy fun! It's a little loose. Not bad going up, but need serious focus and test each block when going down.

I recommend not smoking pot until after you get back on the road. And bring an emergency beacon thing like the Inreach so you wont have to sever a Weblimb.

The area between Dog Mt. and Wind Mt. has interested me for years and I've made a dozen or trips through the area exploring. One thing I noticed was large concrete blocks more-or-less along a line between where the powerline takes an abrupt turn to the north and where it returns. This didn't make sense to me - why route the line in a big U shaped curve over the top of the hills to the north? I found out that the area is a giant slow-moving slide and the powerlines had to be rerouted as they required major and constant maintenance as they slowly slid to the south. Here is the lidar for the area:

And the story of the slide:

My keyboard is malfunctioning and I can't upload properly. I have the full report and some maps but can't upload right now. I need to get a new keyboard and will try then.
