John Day River – Cottonwood Canyon State Park – 11/27

Post by McChaix » December 8th, 2015, 10:09 pm

Image

The day after Thanksgiving we drove about 2 hours to the Cottonwood Canyon State Park. We got there around 10AM and the day was incredible – sunny and between 15 & 20 degrees with a light dusting of snow. There are two 4+ mile trails along the river – one in the sun and one in the shade. We took the sunny route.

There were small icebergs cycling around this rock in an endless backcurrent.

Image
Not a soul there the whole time. Just some geese and ducks until we saw some….

Image
Bighorn sheep far up on the rim.

Incredibly serene.

The park campground.

Excellent and very different hike.

Very nice!

Incidentally, it appears that some of the URL tags for your images inadvertently didn't get closed properly. I don't think it's a big issue, but here's a corrected version, if you want to edit:

You can: there should be a small "Edit" button at the bottom right of your original post. (I'm very glad this exists: without it, nearly every post I've ever done would be a disaster.)
