I was pleasantly surprised at how complete the hike from Arch Cape through Cape Falcon down to Sand Creek Beach turned out to be. I needed to get back on any trail as Labor Day signified the end of Summer so this hike in Oswald State Park of 9 miles and 1000 vertical looked like a great option. The trail was in good shape with some Salal berries still around and the first find of some chanterelle mushrooms.

We did not see anyone until we got to Cape Falcon, however, some of the more impressive coastal views did come before you get that far.

Looking at your pictures I am reminded of how beautiful the coast is!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Fantastic pictures. We were up there on Friday and surprised at how nice the weather was! That is a great hike, but it can be a little crowded.

I hiked from the 101 crossing to Cape Falcon and back once. Is the part from Arch Cape to the highway crossing worth a separate trip? There's limited hiking on the north coast, so I imagine I'll eventually have to do that part, but I'm curious how it stands up compared to the souther part of that hike. I remember being pretty impressed just about 30 feet off the highway.

I assumed the first part of the hike might not be that great but it was worth it for sure. You get away from 101 so it is pure coastal forest.

That's what I was assuming too. Thanks, good to know. I would have done it last time but I couldn't arrange a shuttle.ghsmith76 wrote:I assumed the first part of the hike might not be that great but it was worth it for sure. You get away from 101 so it is pure coastal forest.
