I did a loop in the Three Sisters. Inspired by other's reports
Pole Creek TH
camped at Park Meadow
above Golden Lake, then cross country to Camp Lake
camped at Camp Lake
over the top
camped at Minnie Scott Springs
camped above Alder Creek
Sign at trailhead:
What's interesting about this is, there's a separate sign for the Day Use fee and the annual fee permits. All that kerfuffle about the Forest Service trying to trick us into paying the day use fee - maybe they just forgot to put up the separate sign or someone ripped it down just to create a kerfuffle?
Just love that area above Golden Lake:
Between Golden Lake and Camp Lake is a route. This snowfield was about the worst of it:
Someone else's foot print:
"The Nose" just past Camp Lake. Only about 50 feet of snow to walk on:
Coming out of upper Chamber Lake. There's about 50 feet of snow slope about 45 degrees. In the morning it was pretty icy:
Middle Sister in back of upper Chamber Lake:
That lava flow out of Opie Dilldock Pass. It goes for mile(s). Just like Hawaii. I just like saying "Opie Dilldock":
There were Mosquitoes every day. Few flies. At Minnie Scott they were swarming - 10 on me at any one time. I wore long pants and shirt the whole time. A couple times I used a little DEET on my neck, ears, and back of hands. I wore a Peters Headnet a couple evenings and nights:
Full Disclosure - I got it for free so I'm paying for it by advertising it. It worked pretty good.
Cool how there are these lava flows on top of the ground and the trail winds around it:
44 miles, 4 nights:

Oh, if you want to go around Three Sisters, this would be a great time. Almost zero snow.
If you want to go between South and Middle Sisters, there's some snow and a couple tricky short sections. Wait a couple weeks or a month if you don't want to walk on snow. Pretty easy to find "trail" but that's difficult a couple places even without snow.

Nice! I've been thinking about a loop around South Sister using the "trail" between South and Middle Sister - cool to know it's open.
For your route to Camp Lake: did you leave (cross?) the Green Lakes Trail right around that pass between Green Lakes and Park Meadow?

Nice report Jerry. Good to know about the snow conditions. I am thinking to do some sort of hike around the Middle Sisters area next weekend as pre cursor to the actual Middle Sisters hike in few weeks. Good to know about the current snow conditions. With the High 90s for the next week and beyond, hopefully it will be all snow free trails.

It's going to be hot up there.
Maybe get up and going at first light, lay in shade for a couple hours in the afternoon

Thanks for the TR. I just started doing the Camp Lake cut-through last summer; it makes for some nice alternatives to the main loop around all three mountains.
Any guesses on whether you were at "peak mosquito" levels? I'm thinking maybe their levels will be significantly down by the second week of July.

I would guess we're at about peak mosquito.
Probably better in late July.
Snow levels are about two months early. I wonder if the time when bugs are gone will also be two months early.
Some bug die-off is because they get frozen in September, and that will presumably be normal, so maybe we'll have two extra months when we can go up there but there are bugs.
