Decided to beat the heat in the deep dark woods today. Have never seen so many and such a variety of species and color! Stands to reason - we were in the pines where the sun don't ever shine.... Even saw some bees buzzing in and out.
Indian Pipe
Phantom Orchid?
Wintergreen?
Gnome Plant
Coralroot?
In bloom!
Pinesap
Sugarstick (my favorite, I think)
Pinedrops - three feet tall!
And of course, normal woodsy findings like huckleberries, the world's shortest (and most adorable) beargrass, and a mysterious paper funnel - some kind of wasp creation?
Also, scenic vistas, babbling brooks and a waterfall. Four thumbs up!
