A few weeks ago we hiked the first part of the klickitat Trail from Lyle to MP7 & back. With a rainy day forcast for the Western Gorge we though we would head out there again to knock the second section out. This time starting at Klickitat (MP13) & hiking down to our same Lunch spot at MP7 & back.
Not as much to see see on this section of the trail as on the first 7 miles in our opinion but a good Winter Walk along the River & our first visit ever to Klickitat! Here are a few pics of what we saw:
The Klickitat K on the hillside above town - made with old tires painted white rather than rocks!
We saw several Bald Eagles on the drive up to Klickitat & again while hiking down the trail.
For the first couple of miles hiking south from Klickitat you pass property at both ends of the economic spectrum!
Some interesting Garden Art
We passed a well maintained porta potty at the Pitt TH (MP10) but for those of you who prefer a more rustic experience there was this one at MP9
Our curiosity about a Safety Bypass around MP8 got the better of us!
Et voilà
Lunch at the same MP7 overlook.
With Cheese Cake!
Sleeping off the Hot Apple Brandy
Then the hike back to town
Just in time to catch the last train for home!
Wait a minute, I think we've been left behind!
12.7 Miles & another whopping 570' of EG ..
This hike put me over my goal of 600 miles for the year with a Sunday to spare!
A few more pics here & a map with a red line on it below.

Nice description and shots of the eagle and the garden art(well, ofcourse the cheesecake too
I haven't been on that section at all but it sounds like a perfect idea for a winter trip as you mentioned.

Just north of Pitt there is an abandoned apple orchard. Nice to be able to pick wild apples for a snack if you are there in the right season.

One of these days I'll have to check out that part of the Klickitat Trail, rather than hiking the Swale Canyon part.
Hike on,

Great TR and pictures, Guy - I really need to make it there. No backpacking rule was keeping me away from Klickitat trail (which is odd, as I never backpacked the Deschutes either but been there a few times). I guess every time I don't backpack, I look for potential campsites for would-be future overnight trips
Where did you find the train, is it right near the trail & easy to see?
