That's awesome! I've always wanted to see the larches up there!

Went up to Red Lake and Potato Butte today. The fall colors are past in the Olallie area, as expected. Some of the huckleberry bushes are still red but everything else is past. The snow level seems to be 5700-5900 feet up there, as I saw snow up on Double Peaks but nowhere else. The trails are pretty muddy though, indicating that it rained/snow a ton and then melted.

Great photos, everyone -- especially given the muted/early colors this year! I was up at Eagle Creek and Tanner Creek with a friend from the office last week, and was startled at how few leaves were left on the trees..! So, I dug around in photos from previous years, as I've always had the week of Halloween as "prime time" for lower elevation fall colors. Sure enough, here's the same scene in 2012 and 2013, at about the same time:

The little maple in the center of the photo was only about halfway through it's fall cycle at this time last year -- but last week, the leaves had long since come down. I think the timing is at least a MONTH off the "normal" schedule, and I'm thinking the wet/windy/darkish September basically flipped the switch on the trees early this year.

Very weird! And kinda disappointing on the trail the other day, but we made due. There ARE no bad days in the Gorge..!

Just for old time sake... can you show the before / after before that one tree fell? I think you had the best record of it with fall color vs. today...
