I was up there too on Sunday and I also saw the ocean...I'll refrain from posting a trail report since it's already been done. However, I will say, that hike was amazing and kicked my rear-end. A lot of it had to do with the fact I did Neahkahnie the day before (from Oswald West SP) on 3 hours of sleep, so my body was not in tip-top condition to be doing another hike...I had set out to do the Kings/Elk Mt. loop and half-way up realized my body was not too happy with those plans. It just makes me want to go back and conquer it...not a lot of people during the morning, but I saw lots of people when I was heading down around 12:15p.

"However, I will say, that hike was amazing and kicked my rear-end"

Do Elk Mountain to really kick your rear-end

Can't see ocean though, unless you then walk over to King's

Well, when I do it again, I will make sure I have had enough sleep in the previous day or two...working nights is not the best sleep schedule to be on for hiking during the day! :) Reading the current crop of PCT thru hiker blogs, my night schedule would be perfect for the weather they're having in SoCal on the PCT!

This trail is not too muddy then? I hiked the King's Mountain section back in August and thought I would not want to do it in muddy conditions. Seeing as how its been so wet I was wondering if its really slippery up there now.

Because the post you are responding to was posted in 2013, the author of the post may not be able to answer your question. ;) Although, maybe someone else will know. :D

Thanks for the reply. I had looked at the month/day but not the year of the previous post!
