Did a short trip up Herman Creek/Nick Eaton/Gorton Creek
Snow just before Mud Lake at 3500 feet. This is exactly one month ahead of last year:
Ran into Fred who was going up Tomlike:

I think I like the idea of that loop! Did you go to Wahtum Lake Rd, before doubling back towards Green Point? (I'm speaking without benefit of anything but maps, here!) How far did that end up being?
I've never been up Herman Creek past the Nick Eaton turn-off, and it's one I want to have ready as a fill-in for one of those days when I'm not sure what to do.

Sweet. How was the snow level at the top end of the Herman Creek Trail?

Snow just before Mud Lake at 3500 feet
I started and ended at Herman Creek Trailhead near Cascade Locks. Didn't get all the way to Wahtum, just almost to Mud Lake. It was raining and the snow was slushy so I didn't feel like getting my feet wet.
Then I went up Nick Eaton Trail to Deadwood Camp and back down Gorton Creek. 33 miles total. Fairly leisurely for 4 nights.

Thanks, I was thinking of another circuit ... and was hoping the tangle of trails and junctions at the top on the ridge between Wahtum Lake and the Herman Creek watershed was melting out.
Re: Herman Creek 4/26/2013
Yeah, I was envisioning a loop, too. Maybe that one using Wahtum Lake Rd has to wait another couple weeks...
So you went up (almost) to Mud Lake, then back down and then back up Nick Eaton? Got it. I think.

I was thinking about going up to Wahtum, back via Green Mountain, but the snow was so wet with rain that I got lazy

Not many people know this, but he's listening to the Brother Bear soundtrack while this photo was taken.

Ha, ha, ha
I think maybe I was listening to Clark Howard
He just gave a good suggestion for saving money, like how to make your razor blade last for a year
