Yes I know that I just could not remember that its just normally called the Arch. Getting old and my mind goes blank at times.

Wow I'm glad we decided against backpacking up Nesmith seeing as there was still snow up top. Wasn't sure if there was but then it was so rainy that we decided not to go and did a day hike instead.

Great loop! I went up Horsetail Ridge several weeks ago, but came down Oneonta Canyon instead due to time constraints. Amazing what several weeks' difference makes with longer/warmer days for snowpack and snow levels! I hit solid snow at 2800 feet which deepened to 2-3 feet by 2900-3000 feet. It was surprising to come across any semblance of a path on the ridge as I didn't expect to see any. There were even a few places where brush was cleared. There definitely appeared to be a way up to the ridge from the west side observing on my way back. A Horsetail/ROA loop would be fun for those enamored with ridges in the area and who don't want to hike along trail 400 for long periods.

"The Lurch Map" I'll take it!
Awesome loop! It's good that those "secrets" are getting visited and are more widely known, but I can't help but feel a bit selfish and want to keep them protected secreted at the same time....

Lurch - I hope that I did not distress you by posting the map. A agree with your sentiment, a pristine Horsetail Ridge (and a pristine Multnomah Falls?! ) is very desirable. On the other hand, the more people love these areas, the more numerous we are to protect them.Lurch wrote:"The Lurch Map" I'll take it!

Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Naw you're good! I wouldn't have posted it if I wasn't willing to share it, that's just the first time I've gone back and looked at that old thread and realized how many times that image was viewed!

To be honest, I think that was how I first discovered "Horsetail Ridge" and I have greatly enjoyed it in both directions since then! So, thank you for sharing.Lurch wrote:Naw you're good!
