Great Day for a Hike to Jawbone Flats

Post by Jeff_Portland » March 15th, 2013, 5:09 pm

My girlfriend and I took advantage of the sun and warm weather on Wednesday (3/13/13) and went on a hike to Jawbone Flats. We both have never been and we will most likely go back again. The closer we got to Jawbone Flats, the more snow we saw, but the road was free of snow and everything was melting rather quickly. Here are some pictures from the trip.

Thanks for posting! I woke up this morning wondering if the road to Opal Creek would be clear enough to hike there today, and bam! There was my answer. Love this website.

Welcome Jeff! That is a cool place with the creek and all the artifacts. I had not expected that there would still be snow at that elevation...
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

It was melting quickly, tho I expect they may be getting a dusting again before it's all said and done.

Thanks Brian. My girlfriend took the pick when we want on the Salmonberry River hike. Here's a trip report (not by me, but I posted some other pics in the comments).

I went to this area late last fall and got shut down by a snow storm, so maybe next time. The Bull of the Woods area is a treat, it always seems quiet on the trails there.
