Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area - 2/17/2013

Post by kelkev » February 17th, 2013, 4:46 pm

A spur of the moment choice to head out and explore Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area today. Just south of Independence and not far from the Buena Vista Ferry, this relatively new Oregon State Park is great for some exercise as well as peace and quiet. And close to home for this McMinnville resident! Today's ramble was about 5 miles total. There are two areas to hike, but today I chose the longer option which is a loop, and it also has a one mile spur trail to a neat campsite right on the Willamette River, just across from where the Santiam River joins it. The Luckiamute River also joins the Willamette just downstream from the Santiam confluence. A neat spot for sure. Anyway, no spectacular photos but a few to share anyway. The spur trail to the river campsite had a lot of trees that had ferns growing all over the lower trunks, very cool.

Cool Kevin! I will go there with my Mother next time she visits. I had never heard of this place...

Nice to see a post about this area. The northern area definitely has more trails. The southern area has some great oaks, a short trail, and an established population of endangered western pond turtles, which you will see sunning themselves if the weather is generous.
