Mist Falls Hike
Mist Falls Hike
Two hikes friday (1/18).The first was Mist Falls Hike. The field guide for Mist Falls Hike and Mist Falls Trailhead covers it all. 0.6 miles! Nostalgia with a waterfall to boot. The site of the original Multnomah Lodge til 1929. The fireplace still standing. The trail short, steep, loose rocks, and ice slippery. The waterfall misty wet and icy. Beautiful. My photography too unskilled to do it right. This hike was a joyful surprise for what it expects of you!

Re: Mist Falls Hike
The old lodge that was there (also known as Mist Lodge) was not a predecessor to the current Multnomah Falls Lodge, which was built in 1925. After Mist Lodge burned down in 1929 a second one was never built. It's remarkable what good shape that old chimney is in, considering that the building has been gone for 84 years!Jim57 wrote:The site of the original Multnomah Lodge til 1929.
Here's what the lodge looked like:

Mist Falls is always a great wintertime stop. Jim 57 where is this if you don't mind me asking:
I've been there several times but never noticed this before, now I have to go back!
Thanks for posting those old photos Justpeachy, I'd seen them before but didn't grab them when I had the chance & when I went back I couldn't find them again!

Re: Mist Falls Hike
Nice! Mist falls creates such a big chunk of ice every winter at its base. It's also a hard falls to photograph.

The Multnomah Lodge marker in the 2nd picture is just to the right of the scenic highway next to the rock in the first picture.

Cool, Jim. I might have seen you yesterday? I was the funny looking guy in the red michelin-man puffy who was coming down the rockslide when someone was checking out the fireplace. Great report and pics too, it was sure a fun trip up there and cool too see it covered in all that ice!
Thanks for posting those old pics, peachy. Does anyone know what the 1000ft on the arrow means in the first old pic?

Yes, Mist Lodge / Multnomah Lodge was built in 1916.Eric Peterson wrote:Multnomah Lodge was built in 1916, no?
I was wondering that myself. I was speculating about the elevation or the height of the tree but none of that fits with 1,000 feet.Sean Thomas wrote:Does anyone know what the 1000ft on the arrow means in the first old pic?

Re: Mist Falls Hike
Maybe 1,000 feet from the river? but I guess that would be changing depending on time of year.

Thanks for posting the super cool pics JustPeachy. It certainly adds to the excitment and nostalgia of this hike.
