Larch from the gate - 1/3/13

Post by arundodonax » January 3rd, 2013, 8:08 pm

A last minute decision to avail myself of the fine weather we've been having, and a great first hike of the year. Did the quick hike up to Larch from the gate. I hit the weather just right, with sun just until I returned to the car.

It was really the nicest I've ever seen it up there.

Indeed very impressive! I am amazed that I know practically no names for the ridges/peaks toward Mt. Hood; I guess part of the reason is the lack of access to the Bull Run area.

You've got Big Bend Mtn, and Hiyu Mtn practically in line between Larch and Hood (just barely to the left of the peak).. They don't really have much for peaks so they're really more of the near/far ridges..

I'll have to wait till I'm at home and can bust out some photoshoppery and better maps to ID and label some of those other ones

Here is a link to the view from Larch Mountain on peakfinder:

This site is one of my favorites for identifying peaks :geek: :D

Lurch and Carl - Thank you for the help -I really needed that. The is my first meeting with the peak finder - it even includes the Alps (where I generally do not need any assistance)! Very cool.

Hi, that's one of my favorite reliable snow hikes. Did you need snowshoes? or was the footing good?
Thanks for posting.
