I made the trip back up to Silver Star (first time since September).

I was very delighted that the trees were "flocked" with snow.
The trail was mainly clear up until after passing into the shadow north of Pyramid. Then there were areas where the trail was a creek. I tried to divert some of this off the trail. I was the only person on the Grouse Vista Trail it seemed, but I did see a group of 3 near the summit on my way down.
The lighting was just surreal with the fog moving in an out. The temps were relatively mild, leaving my exposed legs rather warm
Walking the trail, at times I felt like I was on the set of "The Shining", all alone in the fog, things quiet...
My much awaited views...
The walk back was nothing short of spring-like
But winter's ice was still waiting in the wings...

And...
A year ago today, the valley's were socked in with fog and low clouds, but the mountains were out in the sun! Here are pics from my trip up Silver Star.

Nice job on the pics Tyler. The 'summit sun.jpg' shot is otherworldly good.

Nice to be there on a day like this! Wonderful photos, there's even a feel of how quiet it was
That's surprisingly little snow for December at the summit. I hope it stays like this for a couple of weeks...

Thanks all!
Usually I wait for those blue bird days to go hiking, but I can definitely see why it pays to go when mother nature lends a little texture to things!

Nice camera, love the Sun/Cloud shot!
Re: Silver Star 12.5.12
Was this a morning or afternoon hike? I sure could use a sun break like that!
