We did a similar trip in 2010, but in early September. This excellent report brought back some great memories. It looks like the flowers will be out in another two weeks or so? Thanks for sharing.

Wow, looks like a perfect trip to be completely honest.

Whoa... that looks sweet. Hadn't even heard of this area.

This morning I realized my dad and stepmom were camping in this same area -- Trinity lake, or I guess it's called Clair Engle lake on your map? Their pics were nice, but I'd rather hike up to the natural mountain lakes like you guys than drive a big engine around on the man-made reservoir :)

@drm, permits are free, although you need to pick them up at a Forest Service station, we got ours at Fort George (they don't have any ay the trailheads). You can also get them in Weaverville if coming from the other direction

@Bosterson, the road up to Swift Creek TH is easy gravel, about 12 miles. It gets a lot of traffic I presume because of its proximity to Trinity Center. With that said, next time I'll be going up to the Coffee Creek area, lots to explore down there!

Another note about the area is that it gets really really hot down there mid summer. It was approaching too hot during the afternoons when we were there. So what that means is that this is a great late Spring or late Fall destination. I'm sure it's just as beautiful in late September/early October
