BLM seeking input on plans for public land near Portland

Post by amilnor » August 5th, 2008, 10:28 am

The Salem District BLM will be hosting two public meetings this week(http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/salem/p ... _index.php) to present plans for BLM-administered lands in the Sandy River Basin. Proposed non-motorized trails that in the Basin (between Portland and Mount Hood) that would increase access to the Sandy River are a component of these plans and we're looking for your input.
An open house will be held tonight from 6 to 9 pm at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Portland. Tomorrow night we'll be at Wildwood Recreation Site from 6 to 9 pm as well. The website above has directions and some background information on the project.

The same content will be presented at both meetings: conceptual plans for two proposed recreation sites along the Sandy, a conceptual trail design plan and a restoration strategy for the entire Basin. The meetings are designed to present the most important points contained within the Sandy River Basin Integrated Management Plan Environmental Assessment, which will be released in the next couple of weeks for public review.

If you can't attend either of the meetings, we're accepting comments via mail, e-mail and over the phone. Your comments can be as simple as "I support the construction of a new trail system" or "The BLM needs to consider the following public safety issues...". The BLM will take those comments and incorporate them into a final Management Plan finished later this year.

You can contact myself (Adam Milnor- [email protected] or (503) 315-5935 OR Zach Jarrett, the lead planner on the project ([email protected] or (503) 375-5610). We look forward to hearing from you and look forward to your input!
