Larch Mountain Road closed 2023 season

Don't think I've seen this mentioned here. They're going to be doing paving and other maintenance. Presumably not going to open at all this spring, and remained closed through Fall-ish. From MP 7 around SE Red Elder Drive. Definitely screws me up, since my go to in the crowded summer months is simply to approach from the top.

We like to do the crater hike at least a few times each year. Bummer!

On May 27, the project hadn't started yet, the winter gate was open (probably not intentionally because it was open for most of the winter) and the road was clear of snow up to the final curve before the parking lot, near where the loop trail leaves the road. Does anyone have any new intel on that?

I've been confused all winter by posts from people who appeared to be trying to drive right up to the top, until I finally went last weekend and discovered the gate really is wide open.

But I parked at the service road and looped over to oneonta and back through the crater, so I have no new insights into conditions at the top.

I'm particularly curious about when the road closure will actually begin. It seems like the road work could start any time now, but I haven't seen any signs of it yet. I wrote to the county contact for the project several weeks ago, but received no reply.

I just checked https://www.multco.us/roads/webform/lar ... and-repair
Updated 6/9/23: The road is now temporarily open, and is scheduled to close for construction the morning of July 5. The schedule may change depending on work needs and other conditions.

Awesome news, thank you! I was hoping to have my 50th birthday party at the picnic area on July 2. (Birthday was in May, but there was 4' of snow there at that time!)

Looks like the paving project is finished and the road is now open until its normal winter closure: https://www.multco.us/roads/larch-mountain-road
