Thanks Charley, you really came through for me (us)! I came here specifically for the report above, hoping for a little info on St Helens.

I'm not shocked, as MSH looked pretty darn snowy from my vantage point last weekend.

It actually looks like great conditions for certain types of hikes, e.g. an offtrail ascent from road to rim. Not that anybody ever engages in such shenanigans.

You are quite welcome! We figured people were making plans for the long weekend. Given the later snow melt (compared to recent early years), and relative paucity of info available on the web, we figured a report might save someone some frustration.

I agree that these conditions are actually nice for the right kind of trip!

Sentinel Hub EO Browser — CURRENT satellite imagery! And the resolution is just high enough to be useful for snow scouting.

Stayed at Iron Creek over the weekend in Gifford Pinchot, and made the drive up to Burley Mountain a couple of times. FS 7605 was clear of snow from the bottom (FS 76 junction) all the way to the lookout, including the 086 spur. 7605 was in okay condition. Trees have been mostly cleared, but four-wheel is preferred, especially on the spur road. It gets rocky and dusty when you clear the tree line. There were only a few patches of snow visible off of the road on the way up. A group of hikers who hiked the trail (#256 Burley Mountain) said it was clear the whole way.

FS 7605 had patches of snow immediately S of the 086 spur junction that were over a foot deep, and I saw more off of the road in that direction. I didn't bother trying the route via FS 77/FS 7605, or exploring in that direction.

I talked to someone that went through Paradise Park July 6.

A lot of snow above about 5000 feet, difficult to walk through.

Sandy River has a lot of water flowing, difficult to cross

Mt Adams: Riley trail hits significant snow soon after 64A junction, about 4500 feet. Shorthorn Trail is essentially snow free up to Round the Mountain Trail, a few tiny patches. Lower section has been cleared of blowdown, and there is very little above that. But if you go far on RTM, either way, you will hit snow. A half mile NW in some larger trees, there was still 4 feet of snow on the trail. And most creeks there are snow-covered now, requiring crossing questionable snow bridges.

Still lots of snow around yesterday on Mount Hood - Sentinel 2.
