Forecast said snow level 2500' overnight, followed by a nice dry day after 7am.
It was considerably damper than expected, and also warmer.
Looking at SS Mtn, looks like snow level must have been about 4000'.
Just a dusting, of course, will be gone in a couple days.
Pics below were taken at a no-name high point, with views of Larch, Silver Star, Skamania, Three Corner.
Looks like Defiance got a nice coat, but so far away, hard to be sure.

Bonus pic: as you can see, just a tiny bit of snow visible back there at Three Corner Rock.

Hiked the Herman Creek trail to Chinidere on Saturday 4/2. The trail was totally snow free up to Cedar Swamp camp, with the first patches of snow between there and the East Fork crossing. Snow was continuous above 3500'. The base layer of snow was perfect for spikes, very hard and crunchy with next to no post-holing. Then there was 1-2 inches of fresh snow on top, just enough to coat the ground and trees and make everything look pretty and peaceful. The fresh stuff was deeper in the open areas, but never bad enough to put on gaiters.
You know exactly what to do.
There's no need to be afraid.
Keep walking.

I tried to get to Twin Pillars trailhead in Mill Creek Wilderness north of Prineville

Still a little too much snow for me a couple miles before the trailhead. At 5000 feet elevation.

The NOHRSC snow model https://adamschneider.net/hiking/snow_depth.html said it had just melted off. In this case, I should have waited a couple weeks.

Badger Creek from the east: patchy snow starts around the Pine Creek camps. There are many, many, many, many, many, many trees down the first three miles. Then it miraculously stopped, and there was a mostly clear trail to my high point at the Pine Ck camps.

I took my folding saw and it did a great job until it broke.

Four days ago I was hiking with my shirt off—today I awoke to several inches of snow. Perhaps that swing makes this seem more unusual than it is. Where can I find a record of the date of the last recorded snowfall each year for a given station, like KTTD (Troutdale airport)?

Okay, it's not just unusual, it's historic.

The latest date of accumulating snow in Eugene was April 11, 1911, while the latest date in Portland was March 25, 1965.

Four days ago did an almost 50 mile ride in just bike shorts and Chacos (and I have the sunburn to show for it)! Amazing how we've gone from October to late July, to early March to late December or early January in less than a week.

I looked that 1965 date up just now and the weather bureau reported only 3/10 inch. Today's 3 inch+ is really a major blowout for snow records.
