indecisive creek

This creek can't decide if it wants to flow above ground or below ground.

I have seen this several times in the alpine where the ground is firm enough in places for the creek to be above ground and loose enough in other places to trickle beneath the rocks.

One that comes to mind is Mountain Creek on Diamond Peak. It flows out of the ground at the PCT. But this creek has a section higher up on the flats where it comes out of the sand, flows for a hundred yards (maybe 200 yards), and then reenters the ground for a hundred yards only reappear as the spring at the PCT hikers use to filter. I camped here back in 1994 and had time to explore the terrain above.
