Peak Larch Season

Post by jvangeld » October 3rd, 2021, 4:19 pm

I am wondering when and where I could find some good larch color this fall. My wife loved visiting the North Shore of Lake Superior to see the larches change color over there. But since I brought her over here there has been a distinct lack of that in her life. So I would like to find some this year. I am willing to drive two hours from Portland.

Thanks!

East side of Mt Hood. Try Lookout Mountain, or if you want a bit more work, the Cooper Spur trail from Tilly Jane.

The best larch color, however, is in Washington - Alpine Lakes and North Cascades: http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopi ... a1#1220423

On the east side of Mt. Hood, towards the end of October, beginning of November are usually the best times for larch viewing.

Thanks, folks. I will watch the weather and put a trip to Lookout Mountain on my calendar. I've never driven south from the town of Hood River, so if I approach from that direction we will get to look towards Cooper Spur as well.
