Suggestions please

Post by hikin_mike1960 » May 18th, 2021, 10:08 am

Hi,

Been out of actions for a while and would love to do an over night back packing trip anywhere from 5 to 10 miles one way. I would love to hear suggestions please.

Thanks

Michael

If you want to go now/soon, Herman Creek is the best choice. Mild uphill. First camp is about 4.5 miles in at Casey Camp, but if Casey Creek (a couple hundreds yards past camp) is dry, then water would be a problem. A couple more miles will reach more camps. The area will probably be crowded, so weekdays are preferable if you can, or get an early start. There is always Deschutes River. I don't think there is much open in Washington yet.

Others can tell you about choices farther south.

The Benson Plateau is more or less melted out now, and offers some good backpacking options.
