2021 Snow Level
Re: 2021 Snow Level
Hiking up the PCT NB from Panther Creek, I hit solid snow at 3100' about 5.5 miles in.
Re: 2021 Snow Level
Augspurger Mountain north trailhead is clear (2600'). Snow starts around 2800'.

Gorton Creek Trail, Wednesday, April 14th: Completely clear to 3,000', a few patches to 3,050 and solid snow after that. Deadwood cutoff has snow in the top couple hundred feet to the ridge.

Cook-Augspurger 4/11/21
Snow begins after the telecom towers. Snow fairly minimal until the last half mile or so to Augspurger summit.

Re: 2021 Snow Level
Such a strange snow year. I was up there in January and there were only a few shallow patches.mountainkat wrote: ↑April 15th, 2021, 10:09 pmTable Mtn as of 4/6/21

Re: 2021 Snow Level
February is the first month of winter. And the last month. We've actually had a lot of late-starting winters in recent years.
Surprise Lakes snotel, nearest to Indian Heaven, is showing 10 feet of snow. Losing 1-2 inches per day during this heat wave. Snowpack has been above average in southern WA, but I think this extended warm spell will take us down to average.
Once you get south of Mt Hood, I think Oregon snowpack is below average, and southern Oregon is very low.

Re: 2021 Snow Level
At least at low elevation the heaviest snow and coldest air used to happen in December. All my photos of frozen waterfalls along the HCRH seem to be from December anyway, over different years. But things have changed as you say!
Re: 2021 Snow Level
Grassy Knoll is bare at trailhead, and at top, but you'll find snow along the way. I didn't use the trail, so I can't say where it gets snowy.
Re: 2021 Snow Level
Visited Tomlike and Mud Lake on 4/16, up from Herman Creek. Snow starts after Cedar Swamp, and is continuous above maybe 3400'. Mud Lake was starting to melt out, but there was deep snow on the banks. Tomlike ridge had plenty of snow, but exposed spots on the ridge and West side were bare.
Snow was pretty firm, I was sinking in anywhere from not at all to mid-calf. Spikes and gaiters kept my feet happy all day.
