Close to criminal? It is fact that if you injure/kill another human with a weapon, you will indeed be facing criminal charges. Unless no one reported it!

I have certainly heard of hunter shootings that were considered accidents and no charges were filed, even some resulting in a death.

Thanks everyone for your comments on this topic. In my 20 years of hiking in Oregon I have never encountered hunters on a well traveled wilderness trail like the Timberline. Definitely a bit of a Gortex/REI vs Camo/Cabellas sort of culture clash, eh?! Now that we've confirmed hunting on the Timberline is indeed legal, how in the heck is a hunter going to haul out a deer or bear(!) back down to a trailhead?

How do you get the deer out?

actually, when I've talked to hunters in person they've always been reasonable

maybe stay away from the beer drinking target shooters, although I have done that before and survived

The beer drinking target shooters don't stray far from the roads.

I may be firmly in the REI/Goretex side, but I am a bit envious of those with the skill to provide for themselves. I go to the wilderness self-sufficient in most ways.

Packing out a bull elk solo is even more of a task as it requires multiple trips so as to get it back to the vehicle.
