I took a look and at this point it is almost a certainty that the Santiam and Riverside fires will join soon. There was only about 4 miles between them at this point.

That will certainly be a forest fire of epic proportions - it will be more than 300,000 acres. And to think a few days ago I was thinking we were having a very good fire season....

Inciweb is hopelessly behind at this point. Just can't keep up. Best to use the "Fire Activity" layer in Caltopo (almost-real-time satellite).

Yes, looks like the Table Rock Wilderness will be the crucible for that merger of the Riverside and Santiam Fires. The Big Hollow Fire ran over Huffman Peak and is now headed for Mount Mitchell. The Echo Mountain Fire is now in Lincoln City, on the north shore of Devil's Lake . . .

The NYTimes map is showing a much more mosaic pattern for the Beachie Creek, Riverside, Lionshead, and Holiday Farm Fires than some of the other maps I've been looking at like the ESRI map. Hoping that this is accurate...

I don't think you're reading it correctly. That particular infrared map only shows the LATEST hot spots. Everything in the middle was burned earlier this week.

We don't know much yet about the intensity of the fires, or how much of a "mosaic" they created. And they're not done burning yet; when the wind shifts, they might fill in some more.

I caught a little bit of a live news helicopter flying over the Riverside fire earlier today. No audio or much to give a hint exactly where they were, but I was surprised how patchy things were in the areas they showed. There would be a totally burned out structure but the trees around it looked largely intact.

Of course, presumably they wouldn't be able to fly in the worst areas.
