Don, our paths crossed again! You should have left a note on my windshield. Somebody else was on Riley; I left the first prints, there were others when i started down the trail a little before sunset.
That would have been me. I made it up to the Riley Creek crossing of the PCT, hung out for an hour or so around lunch time at the nice camp just above the PCT.

Here's a pair of pics of a little lake on the NW side of Adams, about 6500'.
The snowy pic is from a couple weeks ago. The bare pic was taken today.

Very beautiful view. And it's beautiful without snow, but with snow it's generally a fairy tale. I already want winter, snowy and with fresh frosty air. I think over the past year we have earned a bit of a fairy tale and a Christmas mood.

Looking at the dry pond on the left of this shot of my dinner party guests from Labor Day weekend, appears to be the same place. I think it was about 6500'.

Small world!

Here's that same lake on Oct. 22nd. My GPS shows it at 6,478'. The maps I have don't show it at all.

Interesting that an obscure pond way off-trail, un-named, un-mapped, has been visited by drm + Don + Chip in sep/oct. The three of us were crossing tracks so many times in that period, it's amazing we never saw each other (just footprints in snow and tire tracks in frost).

I think the lay of the land, the shape, pushes hikers who naturally are looking for the easiest path to that ravine/valley just below. So it's a natural thing if you are on the XC route between Adams Creek on the PCT and High Camp. Hey - a large herd of goats were there too - it must be a natural!

Ah, interesting observation. I went looking for the pond because I spotted it when high on an Adams Glacier moraine, and decided to check it out on the way down. And the second day I specifically went looking for it just because I thought it would be neat to see it in summer mode.

I was in the Defiance neighborhood today, with a 3800' goal. Made it, but barely. At times, I was sinking up to crotch. It wasn't too bad below 3600'.
